Behavioral Health Services

The Behavioral Health Services Department provides grant-funded and contracted services to help school districts offer mental and behavioral health support for students in general and special education settings.

In 2023, Douglas ESD received a federal School-Based Mental Health Grant to bring more licensed mental health professionals into Douglas County. We hired 13 professionals who are now working in school districts to support students’ mental health needs.

Contracted services include affordable on-site Skills Trainers or Behavioral Health Instructional Assistants for students from preschool through 12th grade. The support provided helps ensure all students have equitable access to learning. We provide ongoing training and use the latest research-based methods to support the districts and families we serve.

Grant-funded services also offer support from our School Safety and Prevention Specialist. Administrators can request help with flight team responses, threat assessments, suicide prevention, anti-bullying resources, and more.
