Youth Advisory Crew invites youth to participate

Dec. 12, 2022 – The Education Services Department at Douglas ESD is expanding the Youth Advisory Crew also known as The Crew. The program is a leadership opportunity for youth ages 14 -21 to express their voices and create positive changes within our community. Youth decide what’s important and mentors provide skill-building and relational support. During the past year, the youth leads have been shaping the direction of the program. The group has a motto: “Let your voice lead.” The goal is to expand youth voices around programs and policies focused on their age group.

The youth involved have already had opportunities to offer ideas. For instance, one of the youth members painted the design for the group’s new logo. Future teambuilding plans include a park cleanup and evening (minimal-cost) social events.

The hope is that this youth-led advisory crew will grow to be a central and unified space for youth-related topics in our community.

“Youth are our future. Giving youth tools to be advocates allows our community to grow,” said Melody Rogers, Career Connected Learning Facilitator for the Douglas Education Service District.

The Crew currently meets monthly in-person in Roseburg with a virtual option. Future meeting dates and times will be determined.
