Take Root facilitates parent education through classes and workshops. Get an overview of our regularly offered classes and workshops below. We are also piloting several new programs in the 2017-18 year. Look at currently scheduled for classes and workshops on our Events page.

Throughout the year, Take Root Parenting Connection offers the following CLASSES, free and often with available childcare:
Make Parenting a Pleasure: Parents are their child’s first and most important teacher! Learn techniques to help your child learn and grow through positive parent-child interactions and modeling expected behavior. For parents and caregivers of children birth to 8 years of age. A representative will contact you before class to arrange childcare needs. Class is free of charge; donations will be accepted to help cover program costs.

Nurturing Parenting: Explore the topics of child development and behavior to better understand age appropriate practices to develop limits, routines, and positive discipline techniques. For parents and caregivers of children birth to 8 years of age. A representative will contact you before class to arrange childcare needs. Class is free of charge; donations will be accepted to help cover program costs.

Abriendo Puertas (Opening Doors): [For Spanish Speaking families] Learn how to communicate better with your children and help your child develop healthy eating habits. Prepare your child to reach success in school by gaining an understanding of school readiness strategies. Find resources and services available to help your family while interacting with other parents in the community.

One time WORKSHOPS are also offered.

We Read! Exploring Children’s Literacy: Reading to young children is one of the best ways to get their brains to start making connections. Learn ways to engage your child while you read with them, and enrich their minds during story time. Take Root, Care Connections & Education and UCC present this class for parents and caregivers of children 0-5 years of age.

Baby 101: Learn some baby basics and helpful tips to help keep life with baby running smoothly. For all parents and caregivers who interact with infants. Happy Monster, Sad Monster: Young children experience big feelings on a daily basis and need our guidance to develop social emotional competency. Discover fun ways to cultivate your child’s emotional intelligence through the use of children’s literature and related activities. Taming the Tantrum: Are you walking on eggshells hoping your child won’t have a tantrum in public? Is your child prone to irrational emotional meltdowns? Discover strategies to avoid or eliminate tantrums through a better understanding of your child’s behavior. For parents and caregivers of children birth to 8 years of age.

Cultivating Math Skills: What do children need to be ready for Kindergarten? Discover how early learning can encourage a child’s development so they arrive to school ready to learn. Parents and caregivers will learn easy techniques to add to daily activities that encourage mathematical thinking in young children.

Technology for Tots: How do screens affect a child’s brain? How much screen time is appropriate, if any? What age should children begin using screens? In this tech workshop, we will discuss everything from sense stimulation to time management. Leave with valuable resources, some goodies to help manage technology in your home, and the confidence that you are best preparing your child to function in this digital world. Call 541-440-4668.
