Douglas ESD building remodel to benefit children and families

The newly remodeled Douglas Education Service District building at 1871 NE Stephens St., Roseburg will be home to the Early Learning and Parenting Resource Center (ELPRC). The location will serve as a welcoming place for children and families to receive resources and support. The agency is committed to providing an equitable and increased capacity in early intervention, early learning education and special needs services. Partnerships with families support children from birth through age 21 to provide them with the resources and guidance to learn, grow and flourish.

The $4.4 million renovation of the 20,000-square-foot building makes room for the agency’s expanding programs and services. The 11-month remodel project began April 2021 to replace interior infrastructure, upgrade electrical systems, improve airflow, improve seismic resiliency and create a more welcoming environment, complete with evaluation rooms.

“The investment in the Stephen’s Street building is an investment in the children and families we serve. ELPRC is a tremendous resource for our community. We are excited to continue providing quality services that benefit our community now and in the future,” says Douglas ESD Superintendent Michael Lasher.

On March 28 the ELPRC location will be open for families and children to receive services.

A preview open house of ELPRC will take place Friday, March 18 between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

The event will honor the organizations and individuals who have made the building renovation possible as well as celebrate our ongoing partnerships. A special thanks goes to PIVOT Architecture of Eugene and Harmon Construction of Coos Bay.
