  SUMMER FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT – GLENDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT

POSITION SUMMARY:
To cook and prepare food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:   June 26,2023 – July 20, 2023 / Monday – Thursday 6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

SALARY:  Through June 30th: $14.89-$19.01 per hour, after July1st: $15.34-$19.58 per hour

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in the implementation of the menu plans for the purpose of meeting students’ mandated daily nutritional requirements.
  2. Cleans utensils, equipment, and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.
  3. Assists in maintaining proper food temperature requirements.
  4. Assists with estimating food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste.
  5. Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.
  6. Reports to Food Service Director on equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.
  7. Responds to inquiries of students, staff, administration, and/or public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding food menu items.
  8. Stocks food, commodities and paper supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
  9. Takes responsibility of the kitchen manager in this person’s absence.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education
  2. 18 years of age or older.
  3. Ability to work harmoniously with, and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with, students, staff and administration.
  4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality
  6. Possess basic knowledge of food preparation in large quantities, menu planning, and operation and care for kitchen equipment.
  7. Possess knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles, and nutritional requirements.
  8. Ability to secure and maintain a valid Food Handler’s Card.
  9. Perform physical requirements which may include:
    • Moderate degree of physical stamina
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and occasional pushing and lifting up to 30 pounds.
    • Ability to use kitchen equipment.
