Elementary School Special Education Instructional Assistant – Riddle School District
Riddle School District seeks qualified applicants for the position of Special Education Instructional Assistant at Riddle Elementary School. 6 hours per day / 5 days per week.
JOB SUMMARY: The Special Education Instructional Assistant assists in the operation of the instructional or supportive services in the school system. To accomplish these tasks, the Special Education Instructional Assistant works closely with the staff and administration of Riddle Elementary School. The Special Education Assistant assignment will assist in meeting I.E.P. requirements and other services that serve special education students as assigned by the Special Education Teacher, Special Education Director and their Administrator.
SALARY/PAY RATE: $15.53 – $17.81 per hour (Depending on experience)

DUTIES
- Assist teachers in the planning and implementation of learning experiences of students enrolled in programs; confer with teacher to provide feedback on student performance, progress, and testing activities.
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Assist in monitoring classroom management in accordance with the district’s discipline procedures, which may include the physical restraint, physical movement, lifting and carrying of students.
- Supervise students in and outside of the classroom with an understanding of and provision for a safe environment.
- Perform various clerical functions in student record keeping, monitor assignments, IEP development, maintain accurate files, and other related functions.
- Serve as a source of information and support to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Assist in handling discipline problems in accordance with the district’s discipline procedures.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.
- Occasionally perform physical activities which may include: moving and/or lifting of students with physical disabilities; moving, lifting, and/or physically restraining of students with emotional and/or behavioral disabilities.
- Occasionally assist students with personal hygiene tasks, assist students with injury and/or illness that could result and possible exposure to bodily fluids.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have one of the following:

- Completion of 2 years of college study or 72 credits
- Hold an Associate’s degree or higher
- Evidence of successfully passing the COMPASS test
- Knowledge of or ability to understand and adhere to Special Education rules, regulations and policies
