Home Schooling Information

Parents or legal guardians who intend to educate their children at home between the ages of six (if birth date is prior to September 1) and 18 are required to notify their local Education Service District. See notification details below. The educational progress of home schooled students is monitored on the basis of results from standardized achievement tests at the completion of grades 3, 5, 8 and 10 (OAR 581-021-0026).

Douglas County Home School Notification for 2020 - 2021

Notification is required for each child being taught at home by a parent or legal guardian. An acknowledgement letter will be sent within 90 days after the Douglas ESD receives the form(s).

The Oregon State Board of Education approved a temporary rule change on June 18, 2020 that extends the home school testing deadline to November 1, 2020 for the 2019-2020 school year. Home School students who participate in interscholastic activities and need to maintain eligibility for the OSAA will observe the original August 15 deadline. For more information, click here
