Calling all motor fans: The Special Materials Fund is seeking sponsors for the annual Benefit Car Show, taking place March 11 and 12 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
For a suggested contribution of $50, each donor will receive two admission tickets to the show and an invitation to the organizers' end-of-year picnic. The show is presented by Stray Angels and Umpqua Flatheads car clubs.
That's not the only perk to sponsors, who will also receive the satisfaction of helping a good cause. The Special Materials Fund purchases equipment and supplies for families who have children with special needs. An advisory committee, comprising parents who themselves have children with disabilities, reviews all requests and makes all final decisions regarding the use of these funds.
One hundred percent of donations to the fund go directly to Douglas County families and children in need. Equipment going to families can be returned once it's no longer useful to the family, as long as it's in good condition, so it can be given to another child in need.
Funds have been used to provide items including iPad apps, helmets, leg braces, a scooter and standing frame. Many of our teachers and therapists have accessed this fund throughout each year.
