Ideally, children’s summer camps offer opportunities for growth as well as fun. That’s certainly true at PartnerSports Camp 2017, a cooperative effort of Douglas Education Service District and the YMCA of Douglas County. A full schedule of events is available here.
Many children look forward all year to the annual camp, in which up to 50 kids with disabilities pair up with partners without disabilities. Over two weeks, each child or teen shares traditional camping activities with a buddy whose life may be very different. All young participants have the opportunity to bond and discover shared experiences. This is the camp’s 12th year. It’s open to students across Douglas County.
Formerly known as Camp Shriver, PartnerSports Camp this year runs from July 10-20, Monday through Thursday, for eight full days of fun. The schedule focuses mostly on sports, but also features traditional camp pursuits such as hiking, fishing, crafts and campfire cooking. Most activities take place at or are launched from the YMCA, 1151 N.W. Stewart Parkway, Roseburg.
A special thanks goes to donors who joined the 100 for $150 Club. Each membership ensures free admission for a camper. Donations are accepted year-round and may be arranged by calling Douglas ESD at 541-440-4777.
