Learn “How to Think Like a Baby” from psychology professor Ross A. Thompson during a special event July 31 at Umpqua Community College.
Thompson, who directs the Social and Emotional Development Lab at University of California, Davis, will give a presentation from 6 to 8 p.m. at UCC’s Lang Center. The training event is for a global audience of parents, professionals and community members interested in early childhood and parenting education.
Thompson studies the development of positive social motivation in young children, including prosocial behavior, conscience (moral) development and emotion understanding. At the UCC event, he will discuss four concepts including: survival – four questions that newborns need to figure out; statistical learning – language development; I can't help myself – self regulation; and Paris – overwhelming stimulation.
The event is presented by Douglas Education Service District/Take Root Parenting Hub in cooperation with CHI Mercy, The Ford Family Foundation, South Central Early Learning Hub, Early Intervention, Kindergarten Partnership and Innovation Grant, and Care Connections & Education. The presentation is free and dinner will be provided.
