The Douglas Education Service District will host a Safe Sitter Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 21, for anyone who would like to learn more about the responsibility of taking care of a child with type 1 diabetes.
Baby-sitters, caretakers, neighbors, aunts, uncles, other family members, coaches and others connected with kids are all welcome. The free workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 21 at the Douglas ESD Evergreen Room, 1871 N.E. Stephens St., Roseburg.
Trainers from the American Diabetes Association’s Safe at School program will lead the discussion. In addition to demonstrating skills needed to monitor type 1 diabetes, the workshop will cover basic understanding of diabetes, carb counting, how to identify medical emergencies, treatment of high and low blood sugar and administering insulin and glucagon.
