Douglas Education Service District staffers were among many area residents rejoicing at the recent news that the Umpqua region is one of the three new demonstration communities in Oregon for the Blue Zones Project.
As a reminder, that means that we will be joining Grants Pass and The Dalles in implementing some of the strategies and lifestyles contributing to wellness and longevity, as seen in areas of the world where people live the longest, healthiest and most balanced lives. (Klamath Falls, the first Blue Zones Project community in Oregon, began its three-year program in 2016.) Our efforts are bolstered by Oregon Healthiest State and Cambia Health Foundation, partners of the Blue Zones Project.
As the movement gathers force and momentum in the Umpqua Valley, there will be numerous opportunities to get involved in boosting our collective health profile. We’ll help keep you posted on ways volunteers can support the goal of making Douglas County a healthier and happier place to live, learn, work and play.
