Grant delivers behavioral health services to students

The Ford Family Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant to the Douglas Education Service District and Douglas County school districts for a program that aims to help students grades K-3 whose behavior disrupts classroom learning.

The districts helped design a new Ready, Set, Learn program, which the Douglas ESD will operate. The program deploys a team of behavior specialists to work with families, students and schools.

See the 2016 PartnerSports Camp daily schedule

The Douglas ESD/YMCA 2015 PartnerSports Camp begins July 11 and will run through July 21, excluding Fridays. Parents wishing to see a full roster of activities may download the schedule here.

An abbreviated version of the first week appears below.

Here’s the schedule for July 11, 2016:

There's still time to register for July 11-21 PartnerSports Camp!

Registration remains open to participants in this summer's PartnerSports Camp, offered for eight days during July 11-21.

Formerly known as Camp Shriver, PartnerSports Camp is a cooperative effort of Douglas ESD and the YMCA of Douglas County. Most activities take place at or are launched from the YMCA, 1151 N.W. Stewart Parkway, Roseburg. This is the camp’s 11th year. It’s open to students across Douglas County.

Golden Apple nominee reflects core values

Two kindergarteners are happy to supply the name of the critter they’ve been asked to identify on a flash card. “It’s a piGG!” they chortle.

Speech/language pathologist MiaTree Oquilo responds with equal enthusiasm as she wields the card. “Right! And I love hearing that ‘gah’ at the end,” she says.

MATP on Safari a roaring success

“This room is just filled with joy.”

That was one variation of a comment overheard numerous times Thursday at the Fremont Middle School Gym. The mood was appropriately festive for a day the calendar calls Cinco de Mayo, and that we at Douglas ESD set aside to celebrate our Motor Activities Training Program.

May 5 MATP celebration walks on the wild side

Some of Douglas County's greatest kids have been waiting a long time for this year's Cinco de Mayo, and here's why. Our annual Motor Activities Training Program celebration takes place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, at Fremont Middle School.

This year’s theme, “MATP on Safari,” promises to be a wild time, with Wildlife Safari staff bringing small animals as well as items for children to explore through touch and sound.
