PartnerSports Camp 2017 kept athletes engaged

Many thanks to all who helped to make the July 10-20 PartnerSports Camp a memorable occasion for our campers, partners and volunteers (and speaking of those folks, thanks to them, too, for being such good sports). Whether they were swimming, golfing, fishing, working on crafts or perfecting their martial arts moves, our 2017 participants were making connections we hope will be valuable to them in the years ahead.

PartnerSports Camp 2017 schedule released

Ideally, children’s summer camps offer opportunities for growth as well as fun. That’s certainly true at PartnerSports Camp 2017, a cooperative effort of Douglas Education Service District and the YMCA of Douglas County. A full schedule of events is available here.

Bank of the Cascades supports PartnerSports Camp

A generous donation from the Bank of the Cascades will help ensure we have some happy campers in Douglas County this summer.

Last week, bank representatives delivered a check for $2,000 to Douglas Education Service District’s Bryan Hinson and Mike Goetz of the YMCA of Douglas County. The funds will support our jointly sponsored PartnerSports Camp program, which will take place this summer from July 10-20.

Golden Apple winner harvests accolades

Detective work is essential at the Complex Needs Classroom at Fir Grove Elementary School. Sometimes a student’s only reaction is a slight brow crease, or the merest whisper of a smile.

Pamela Schneider’s two years of teaching in the classroom operated by the Douglas Education Service District have sharpened her powers of investigation. Also her enterprising spirit.

Patch match: SUHS Special Ed students get quilting lessons

Fifteen-year-old Ayla McCullough pokes a needle upward through white fabric beside an eight-pointed star, careful to keep her other hand clear of stabbing range. A snip and a tying off, and she’s ready for the next series of stiches on the material draped over a table at South Umpqua High School.

We’d love to have you come out to support MATP athletes and their peers. It all happens from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4.
