Plans underway for Aug. 7-8 SWO Leadership Conference

Please mark your calendars for the 8thth annual Southwest Oregon Leadership Conference, taking place Aug. 7 and 8 at the Danny Lang Event Center at Umpqua Community College.

Day one activities are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will focus on trauma, equity, and resilience. The first guest presenter will be Michael Rondeau, chief executive officer/tribal administrator for the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians. He has held numerous administrative positions in the 28 years he has worked for the tribe. He is a member of the Umpqua Economic Development Partnership and Phoenix Charter School Board.    

Also scheduled to speak on Aug. 7 is Kristin Souers, a licensed mental health counselor who provides professional development, consultation, education and training services to school districts and other organizations nationwide. She will share strategies that increase student success by creating trauma-sensitive schools. Kristin Souers was the keynote speaker for the spring Confederation of Oregon School Administration series on trauma-informed care.

On the second day of the conference, members of the Hungerford and GHR law firms will provide information and updates on laws affecting school districts. Day two will last from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
