"Hooked on MATP" can be habit-forming
If you’re angling for a good time, look no farther than this annual celebration for some of Douglas County’s most deserving kids.
“Hooked on MATP” is this year’s theme for our annual Motor Activities Training Program celebration. We’ll be joined this year by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. We’d love to have you come out to support MATP athletes and their peers. It all happens from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4.
Activities for our MATP athletes typically include golf, ramp bowling, basketball, switch-activated games, modified versions of soccer and softball and sensory experiences available to kids of all abilities.
Participating athletes range in age from 3 to 21, and are accompanied by peer partners (either a fellow student or a family member). Each MATP athlete gets a medal and recognition from the volunteers and community members who attend.
Student helpers from the middle and high-school levels help organize events, which include a parade at 9:15 a.m.
Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The parade begins about 9 a.m. Closing ceremonies are expected to commence shortly after 11 a.m.
Volunteers are welcome! Check the sign-up sheet outside the Consulting Team (PT/OT) Office. Or just head on over to join the cheering section. See you there!
