Fund for Teachers still taking applications
Educators have until Jan. 31 to apply for the national Fund for Teachers grant program, which is being offered in the Umpqua Valley for the second consecutive year. The initiative is part of The Ford Family Foundation’s work to support teachers and develop networks of high-quality teachers and leaders in Douglas County.
Fund for Teachers invites applicants to design a summer learning experience to transform their classrooms. Instructions are to craft an odyssey that brings out the scholar, explorer, scientist or artist in each applicant.
Teachers with three or more years of experience in the classroom are eligible to submit an individual or team proposal for summer educational experiences they deem relevant to their careers and classrooms – anywhere in the U.S. or around the world. Awards of $5,000 are available for individuals and $10,000 for teams.
To be eligible, applicants must spend at least 50 percent of their work weeks in direct classroom instruction. They must also plan to return to the classroom in the school year following the summer learning experience.
