Geneva Academy Receives Accreditation
Geneva Academy of Roseburg is now a fully AdvancEd-accredited K-12 school in the state of Oregon. Headmaster Brian Turner reports that Geneva Academy has been given a five-year accreditation. In addition, the school received multiple commendations. The Accreditation Report states, "Not only has the leadership and staff committed to the culture of Classical Christian education, students and parents can also articulate these values and beliefs. The principles of this educational model emphasize critical thinking, rigorous and challenging curriculum, and extensive opportunities for students to develop as effective communicators. Students thrive on this consistent, integrated curriculum delivered by caring, committed staff."
AdvancEd, formerly known as the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC), is the largest K-12 accrediting organization in the U.S and accredits most public and many private schools in the country and is known for its student-centered approach.
Mr. Turner said, "Accreditation will mean that students' credits, should they move, will transfer easier to other high schools. It will mean simpler admissions procedures at some colleges. It will also improve institutional access to grants."
Gaining accreditation followed shortly after Geneva's first commencement ceremony.
The school held its inaugural commencement on June 4that their Vine Street campus. The class of 2016 was the first to graduate from the private classical and Christian school, known for its Latin, logic, and great books curriculum. The school has grown from a one room classroom of 6 students to a K-12 student body of over 115.
Plans are currently underway for the construction of a building of their own in the Felt Street neighborhood just south of Hucrest.
