Applications available for July 11-21 PartnerSports Camp

Release Date:
4/12/2016

Registration is open to participants in this summer's PartnerSports Camp, offered for eight days during July 11-21.

Formerly known as Camp Shriver, PartnerSports Camp is a cooperative effort of Douglas ESD and the YMCA of Douglas County. Most activities take place at or are launched from the YMCA, 1151 N.W. Stewart Parkway, Roseburg. This is the camp’s 11th year. It’s open to students across Douglas County.

The annual summer gathering pairs 50 campers with disabilities and 50 partners without disabilities. PartnerSports Camp’s two-week schedule focuses mostly on sports, but also features traditional camp activities such as hiking, fishing, crafts and campfire cooking. Every partner has an opportunity to gain experience working with a camper and understand the daily challenges each faces.

A new feature this year is the launch of the 100 for $150 Club to secure free admission for all young participants. The club’s goal is to register at least 100 donors pledging $150 each to cover the cost of camper participation. The $150, tax-deductible sum represents estimated cost to accommodate one camper. Please send contributions for PartnerSports Camp to Douglas ESD at 1871 N.E. Stephens St., Roseburg, OR 97470. The donation drive takes place through May 31.
