SUPERINTENDENT: Resources for talking with children about grief, death
A MESSAGE FROM DOUGLAS ESD SUPERINTENDENT MICHAEL LASHER:
It has been a tragic two months in Douglas County with the death of seven children and young adults. When summer time is supposed to be a time for fun and relaxation, it is terrible indeed for families and our communities to endure such events.
Every child’s passing diminishes us. The entire educational community of Douglas County extends its heartfelt condolences and prayers to our lost children and their families. We pray that they will be comforted by all their friends and neighbors who will reach out to them.
Talking with children about grief and loss can be very difficult.
Resources and tips for holding these conversations can be found at:
Please give your child an extra hug today and remind them that you love them. Hold them safe, if only for a moment and let them know you care.
Our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Joshua Hartley, Sophia Pena, Naomi Svendsen, Danica Schnaible, Kiona Siewell, Dustin Conopa and Froylan Carrion-Estrada.
