Registration still being accepted for 10th annual PartnerSports Camp

Release Date:

There's still time to register for the YMCA-Douglas ESD Partner Sports Camp, taking place July 14-24.

Applications for campers are available HERE. Applications for partners are available HERE.

Campers with disabilities are paired with normally abled children for the two-week schedule focused mostly on sports, but also featuring typical camp activities such as hiking, fishing, crafts and a cookout. Every participant has an opportunity to gain experience working with a peer and understand the daily challenges each faces.

Just as important, campers and partners alike are able to play, laugh and enjoy traditional camp fun while making new friends from around Douglas County.

Formerly known as Camp Shriver, PartnerSports Camp is marking its 10th year of operation. It’s funded entirely by donations and grants and is the only one of its kind west of the Mississippi. The camp is a cooperative effort of Douglas ESD and the YMCA of Douglas County.

Registration is limited to 50 campers and 50 partners. Last year we had 80 total participants and hope to reach 100 for this special 10th-year anniversary.

PartnerSports campers are ages 8 – 21; partners are ages 12 – 21. Partners aged 18-21 need to contact the Douglas ESD and arrange for a background check prior to camp. Mandatory partner training takes place from 10 a.m. to noon July 13.

Financial assistance is available for campers and can be arranged through Douglas ESD. School districts involved are providing transportation for students to camp so that is not a barrier for families.

Applications are available on the Douglas ESD website ( or paper copies are available at the YMCA or Douglas ESD. Completed applications should be dropped off at or mailed to Douglas ESD at 1871 N.E. Stephens St., Roseburg, OR 97470.

Most activities take place at or are launched from the YMCA, 1151 N.W. Stewart Parkway, Roseburg.

Thanks to this year’s sponsors and granting organizations Umpqua Fisherman’s Guild, Lithia of Roseburg, Whipple Foundation, Crane Creek Foundation, DCIPA (the Physicians of Douglas County) Taylor/Hatfield Memorial Youth Fund, and the YMCA of Douglas County and Douglas ESD. Additional thanks to all the volunteer coaches and camp staff, and participating districts providing transportation for students.
