March 12 is last day to sign-up for March 16 symposium on transition
Special education teachers and administrators from Douglas, Coos and Curry are invited to gather on Monday, March 16 to learn and share tips on how they are preparing students for successful transitions from school into integrated employment. This professional development conference is free to educators.
Speakers will provide information on how they developed their programs, which follow a model that makes community-based, integrated employment the first option for services for youth and adults with significant disabilities. Participants can learn what they can do to help prepare their students for a transition from classroom to workplace. The format includes presentations as well as a question-and-answer period.
The program will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, March 16 at Douglas ESD, 1871 N.E. Stephens St., Roseburg.
Professional Development Units and substitute reimbursement are available, as well as mileage reimbursement for those traveling 50 miles or more. A networking lunch will be provided. Sample curriculum and transitions assessments will be furnished.
Registration is open through March 11.
